TRIDENT MEDICAL CENTER NAMES MAURY BAKER CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Maury Baker(CHARLESTON, SC, October 7, 2024) –  Trident Medical Center has named Maury Baker as its new Chief Operating Officer.  He will start October 29, 2024.  Baker joins Trident from sister Trident Health hospital, Summerville Medical Center, where he served as the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer.

Trident Health includes two acute care hospitals – 302-bed Trident Medical Center and 124-bed Summerville Medical Center; 60-bed Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness; and four freestanding ERs – Brighton Park Emergency, Centre Pointe Emergency, James Island ER, and Moncks Corner Medical Center.  Trident Health has also announced plans to build a freestanding ER and a hospital on Johns Island, SC.
Healthgrades, a national healthcare ratings agency that reviews data from more than 4,000 hospitals, named Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center as recipients of its America’s 250 Best Hospitals award for two consecutive years and this year the hospitals were named among The Fortune/PINC AL 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals.
 
During his time at Summerville Medical Center, Maury collaborated with every department to successfully execute nearly $100 million in growth projects.  The initiatives include:

  • The $10.6 million Operating Room expansion
  • The acquisition of the Globus spine robotic surgical system and fourth da Vinci XI robotic surgical system
  • The construction of the Level III Neonatal ICU
  • The $66.8 million 56-bed inpatient tower expansion
 
 Baker is a native of Charlottesville, VA.  He is already an accomplished healthcare executive.  His career and education include:
  • Vice President of Operations, LewisGale Medical Center
  • Vice President of Operations, Colleton Medical Center
  • Administrative Resident, LifePoint Health
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Virginia Tech
  • Masters in Healthcare Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University
 
Additionally, he:
  • Graduated from the HCA Healthcare Executive Development Program
  • Graduated from the HCA Scholar for Emerging Health Care Leaders
  • Was named a “40 under 40 Emerging Leaders” by The Roanoker Magazine when he worked in Virginia
 
Maury and his wife, Emily, have one child – a son.  His hobbies include spending time with his family, playing sports, and cheering on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
